L1 to H1 conversion

I am in US on L1 visa.If I apply for H1 in Apr 2007 what happens to my L1 status in Oct 2007, when H1 gets approved. Is change of status done automatically. Can I continue on L1 beyond Oct 2007, if I want to.

Re: L1 to H1 conversion

Once a status change from L-1 to H-1B is approved for October 1st, 2007, the person cannot continue to work on L-1 beyond September 30th. The L-1 status is terminated at that point. The person will hold H-1B status. In order to return to L-1, he or she must apply for status change back to L-1 status.
