Legal Question in Insurance Law in California

Lied to insurance company, possible insurance fraud

I have a friend that that was in a car accident. He took a left turn at a light and car turning into a parking lot turned infront of him and he just got the back end of the car. He drove down the street since it was busy and came back about 10-15 min. later and didn't recognize a car or guy that he hit, so he drove off and went to work since he was already later. He told his insurance company that he was involved in a hit and run in the parking lot. Well I quess the guy that was hit got ahold of his insurance company and my friends ins. company is asking what happened. Should he stick with his story or say what really happened. It wasn't my friends fault. He doesn't want to get called on ins. fraud. He was just scared and didn't know what to do. Could you let me know what could happen and if he told the truth. Thank you very much.

Re: Lied to insurance company, possible insurance fraud

He needs to tell the truth now. If he continues to lie, he could be charged with insurance fraud, a felony.
