Legal Question in Insurance Law in California

personal liability insurance required to lease a apartment I this legal

I have been told I must provide a renters insurance policy with 50,000 of personal liability coverage however most companies only have 100,000 policies available this does nothing for my personal property it covers the rental. I have been told that unless a policy is purchased my lease will not be accepted all renters are required to provide coverage for the unit in which they live in and there are no exceptions. Is it legal to enforce a renters insurance policy be placed on each tenant. Is it legal to force renters to buy this insurance policy. This is not a condo or house this is a apartment complex and one of the few properties that enforce this rule to lease a unit.

Yes, this is legal and standard procedure for a nicer apartment. The rate for $50K and $100K is surely almost the same. Go to a knowledgeable insurance agent and you will find a renter's policy covers your personal property plus legal liability to your landlord and to others.

It's legal. Leases have liability insurance requirements all the time in commercial leases, it's starting to show up in residental leases.
