I am writing a diet book. Can I use

''name brands''when I write a book?

Mainly to recommend products or list

their ingredients.

Naming brands that you recommend is allowed and reviewing brands is allowed. I might need more facts to think of a situation in which you would not be allowed to do so. You should not misrepresent your expert status as somehow speaking on behalf of the companies you talk about, but there was no indication you were going to do so. You also should not give diet advice of any kind without hiring a lawyer to review what you are saying and write appropriate disclaimers.
