Legal Question in Intellectual Property in California

I have a business idea that utilizes artist song names and movie titles as a basis for my product. I never actually reference the artist name or song/movie title. Is this considered trademark infringement?

Depends entirely upon what you mean by "utilize" and "reference." My advice is to think in terms of "profit from," and if the phrase fits, the business idea is risky.
