Legal Question in International Law in California

unknown

person claiming to be attorney in foreign country asks person with same last name living in U.S. as a deceased person to claim to be next of kin when no next of kin is alive. Money in bank to be released to person claiming to be next of kin so person and attorney can split money. What is the point of law and what trouble does person face?

Sounds like one of those Nigerian email scams. There isn't any deceased person, attorney, bank, or money -- except yours, that they are hoping you will send to them.

I hope you haven't wired them any money yet.

This is most likely an online scam. If not, then you would face possible prison for fraud and other crimes.
