Eviction/Unlawful Detainer

It has been more than 12 years since the Eviction/Unlawful Detainer was placed on my credit report. Can I remove this? If so - How? I am older now and attempting to purchase a house, can you tell me the best thing to do? The landlord has since passed away.

Write to the three credit reporting agencies disputing the unlawful detainer judgment.
