Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

my ex-roommate and i signed a lease agreement for six months (a specific date) that becomes a month-to-month after that date. my roommate gave 30 days notice and left before the six months, breaking that agreement and i stayed. the six months is now over, and i am now month-to-month, but is the contract still valid if she is no longer here and it is now month to month? did i need to sign a new lease since it's after the six months? am i still bound to the original lease with her name on it? is it still a valid contract if she broke it and its after the 6 month agreed upon period?

The original contract is still valid and you are currently on a month to month lease. You and your roommate are still bound to the terms and conditions presented in that original lease. In the eyes of the landlord the contract is still valid even though your roommate left as long as the rent is paid.

I agree with the previous answer, and would add that you should sign a new rental agreement with the landlord.
