Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Need help

What are my options? I have a roommate/friend that has been living with me for the month of January she did not pay rent. When I tried to contact her & received a bunch of excuses. Now its the 3rd of February its due again i have tried to contact her through phone, text, and email and no response. She hasnt been home in 5 weeks going on 6 weeks. What do I do with her stuff or what can I do about her not paying rent or letting me know whats going on? I cant afford the rent and I need to rent out that room. Can I change the locks and get rid of her things?

You will probably need to evict her with notice. If she was just "staying" with you and never paid rent, then you can just move her stuff to another location and rent out the room.

It does sound like she has been there for a significant amount of time, therefore, I suggest the 3-day pay rent or quit notice.
