Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Renters rights

I leased a house that had propane. When we moved in the tank was at 10% and we had it filled to 50% which cost us about $375. About 3 months later, the owner had natural gas installed and we had only used about 10% of the propane in the tank. The owner has sold the tank with OUR propane in it for $100. They are telling us that they do not have to reimburse us for the propane that was not used. I feel we are out about $325. Is there a law against this or is this something that we just have to suck up and deal with it? Thank You.

Re: Renters rights

If you're otherwise on good terms with your landlord, see if you can get him to give you a break on your rent for a few months because of it. Save your propane invoice to show your normal use from when you moved in. Good luck!
