Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

my car wrecked by uninsured driver

My car was wrecked by my sisters boyfriend, my insurance had lapsed due to late payment i was unaware of and other driver did not have insurance which i was also unaware of. i let him drive my car around the block and he was speeding and took a turn too fast and hit a fence and damaged my car badly. i wasnt in the car and it is undriveable, who is responislbe for the damages to the car and how can i collect. and the kid already fixed the damages to the house he hit. after he hit the fence he drove off and was charged with a hit and run. how shd i go about resolving this?

As a condition of his probation he should pay for all of your out of pocket costs. Notify the district attorney's office of the amount of losses.
