Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

I scratch a 20yo boy on the nose on my property as I grab a marajuana joint he is rolling in his hands. He is sitting in his car as I walk up. I don\'t think I did, but if I did, the scratch was accidental. He later tells me he has a marijuana card and he wants $500 to$1000 or he takes me to court for assault. I have pictures he sent to me. They show a scratch approx 1 inch x 1/16 to 1/8 inch wide. Very small, very superficial. This occured 1 week ago. He did not go to seek medical care and is now telling me he may need to get his nose \"fixed\". Maybe a scar. I believe he is just trying to get money. Neosporin for my kids when they get scratches like this. Does this boy have any ground for an assault charge? Should I just pay $500 and \"hope\" he goes away? What should I do. I feel this is so silly for him to push me for something like this. Thank you for your help.

When you stole his medical marijuana by force, you committed a robbery, a serious felony. You had no business committing a robbery any more than if he had had a loud boom box on your property and you had forcibly taken that from him. I would pay him the $500, you are lucky you did not get arrested.
