Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

I was in a traffic accident in '07 (I had no insurance at the time of the accident) and the insurance got a default judgement against me using a substitute service. This cause my license to get suspended. My problem is that my job requires a drivers license as I drive a company vehicle. I am trying to get my license back (at least a provisional license to drive company vehicle) so I can go back to work. The insurance company is unwilling to work with me reasonably as they want almost $15,000, or $1,000 now, then payments of $500 a month for about 6 months before they will issue anything stating I am trying to satisfy the judgement. This would end my job. My other altenative is I know of is bankruptcy, but that can take a while to get my license back with that as well. What would be the quickest way for me to get me back a license at least for provisional.

Contact the DMV to find out their rules and see if you can get a license just to drive to and back from work and drive on company business. Also find out if you start paying on the judgment whether the license would be reinstated and when.

If you feel the insurance company did not try to serve you or substituted service was wrong, you would have a reasonable period of time, up to 6 months to move to set the default aside. Does the insurance company have proof that they paid their insured at least $15,000 in property damage and loss of use and that they have a document from their insured granting them the right of subrogation? They could not get a valid judgment against you without having both.
