Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

My boyfriend initiated a "logbook" with his sons mother to share day-to-day schedule and diet changes for their young child. Recently his ex abruptly with no explanation has refused to participate in the logbook and has not handed it over. Does my boyfriend have a legal right to ask for the logbook back? He paid for it and started the sharing process.

This is not a real-estate question. Here are my offhand reactions. First, your boyfriend has a legal right to ask, and his ex has a right to refuse. What is really at stake here? Is it the welfare of the child, or possession of a $2.95 spiral notebook, or copyright ownership of the contents? Would he be satisfied with Xerox copies of every page? Money damages? Custody rights? What's really the issue? And if the status quo upsets your boyfriend, maybe he should be the one to re-ask it under a heading that is appropriate for his concern, not real estate.
