Re: changing the locks

If you do not have a lease which would allow you to stay in the apartment than by law all the landlord has to do is give you a 30 day eviction notice depending upon whether you are in a rent control district. If you do not vacate the landlord would then have to do an unlawful detainer on you to remove you from the premisis. If this occurs it will be almost impossible for you to rent another apartment because the UD would go on your credit report. You may want to use an attorney to negotiate with the landlord staying an additional month, or just put your belongings into storage and stay somewhere else for a month. The Unlawful Detainer will ruin your credit!!
