Re: oven unit

The gas leak is probably illegal under some code or other. I know of no requirement for either a temperature gauge or venting of ovens. These are primarily building code matters, not landlord-tenant law, and codes vary from city to city.

Even if the conditions described are not illegal, it is unwise for a landlord to allow, or for a tenant to accept, any dangerous condition. Reasonable landlords will fix such problems upon notice by the tenant because this shields them from potential liability.

The gas leak sounds like something requiring immediate attention. Contact the gas supplier if the landlord doesn't fix it. The other matters may or may not be dangerous, but are probably not illegal in the strictest sense.
