Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

I recently seek the help of a real state agent to help me modify my house payments or anything they knew possible to prevent me from losing my house. They asked me for $1250 in advanced which i payed them by check and just after i gave it to them they would not answer our calls and just made us waste our time by driving back and forth until we were kicked out of the house and the move from the location they were at. We found them at that other location and they said that they admit they had to give us our movey back because they had not been able to do anything for us. Once again on the day the were suppossed to go pick up the money they had dissapeared from that other location. I honestly need my money and i know of other people that were affected the same way by the same people!

Report them to the local DA's Office, whilch probably has a real estate fraud division. Contact the State Dept of Real Estate to see if the broker was licensed and what reimbaursement you can get. The DA will be able to tell you about the fund for victims of criminal acts but it always runs out of money. Find out who owns the buildings where their offices were and talk to the owner to see if they know where the crooks are. Try to have a group meeting with the others to see what can be done jointly, but remember that you may get more money back acting independly and they probably do not have any money to make it worthwhile to sue them. You can take the loss off of your taxes.

The Department of Real Estate also has a 'victims of fraud' reimbursement fund, and I once got a client a $25,000 settlement, but I must say the process was not fast or easy. The real question here is whether any of the people claiming to be real estate agents or brokers were realy licensed. If you would provide me with the names of all individuals and all business names used, I will check the DRE web site and let you know if these people were licensed. Please contact me off the LawGuru site.
