Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

We rented the current house we are living in without knowing that the house was in the process of being foreclosed. We found out almost 6 months later. Our lease recently ended in May and we did agree to go on a month to month basis. The months May-June have already been paid for. The owner told us sometime ate the end of June that we could stay for free until Aug 15th which is the date needed to sell the house to prevent foreclosure. We have never received any written and signed notices from the real estate agent or the landlord until this day. Can we be compensated??
