Legal Question in Tax Law in California

Lack of tax deductions dilemma

I have a friend who makes around $150K/year who complains about being over-taxed due to a lack of deductions. The only thing, I guess, her CPA has recommended is to become a landlord, which she has no desire for (she's already in the business). The only way out of this she knows of is to work less (which, per her responsibilities), doesn't seem feasible. My thanks to anybody who can help out here.
