Legal Question in Tax Law in California

Nevada LLC for online business

I am considering setting up a LLC to

act as a parent to one of two small

CA sole-proprietorships.

Both are small online businesses and

aren't really geographically limited to

the state I live in (California).

I have been told that setting up a

Nevada LLC might help with my tax

expenses.

For example, if I had a Nevada Bank

Acct and LLC in Nevada (through

something like NevCorp-dot-com),

would I be able to pay for business

expenses (software, etc) purchased

in CA (or online)? If I didn't pay

myself a salary

through from LLC, would I still be

obligated to pay the California

Franchise tax?

Thanks for your time!
