Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

Hi,

my friend has received many speeding tickets and her license was taken away about 8 months ago in May of 2009. She kept on driving without her license and thought that she wouldn't get caught but she did. Recently she was pulled over and she was issued a ticket once again. It was because her back license plate light wasn't working and she doesn't have insurance on the car. She went to jail for a couple of hours and came out. She now has 22 points on her record. She hasn't been driving ever since this happened. Also she hasn't paid her fines yet and she has DUI on her record but that was two years ago. She is going to court in the beginning of February, do you possibly know what might happen?

Driving on a suspended license for a DUI carries a minimum sentence of 10 days in jail and a substantial fine. If it is suspended for having too many points then the minimum is 5 days in jail and a substantial fine. If it is suspended for some other reason the minimum is a substantial fine.

What might happen to your friend depends on the county, specific circumstances of the citation, and her driving record. It is apparent that she has a very bad record so that will likely be held against her. Hopefully your friend can afford a lawyer who is experienced in traffic law because that it what she needs.
