Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

I got a ticket on 4/17 for expired tags in CA.

My tags are clearly visible and are valid for 4/18/2010 to 4/18/2011. I also have purchased new tags earlier this month. Should I fight this?

Pulled me over for not wearing seatbelt. I was wering it.

Also ticketed me for cracked windshield

Tags are valid for one full year, so it would run 4/18/10 to 4/17/11. If you look at your new tags you will see they only have the month and year and not the day, so the officer would view you as driving for 17 days with expired registeration tags. How do you determine that the expiration date is 4/18? What evidence did you present to the officer? i do not see how you can beat the ticket, but some traffic courts will allow you a discount up to 50% if you agree to plead guilty and waive a trial.
