Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

I'm the co-trustee of my mothers estate but, I'm not sure what my responsibility is?

In short, your duties are to confirm the assets, pay the expenses and make whatever distributions are called for under the trust instrument. In doing these things you owe a very high fiduciary duty to all beneficiaries and cannot take actions that favor one beneficiary over another. For example, giving one beneficiary assets that have gone up in value since the appraisal and giving other beneficiaries the equivalent in cash. This may be seen as favoring a beneficiary over another.
