Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

my father passed away in march of 2011. He owed approx 82,000 on his house and about 15,000 in credit debt. I did not file for probate because of the debt and the house couldn't be sold. The property was in his name. I received a letter from a creditor that has petitioned to open a probate. what should i do?
