Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

I am currently filing for successorship of 50% of my dad's house. We had a joint checking account with successorship to me. Would his medical bills go after his 50% of the house? I'm not sure how to handle this as this hasn't been settled in court.

I believe you mean that you are a surviving joint tenant on the house and account, and that your dad was on MediCal?

If you don't settle with MediCal, and take property that belongs to your dad's estate, MediCal can go after you for the unpaid bills. The result may be different with joint tenancy, but you are not clear that these items were held in joint tenancy between you and your father. I suggest you speak to an attorney at length before taking any steps on your own.
