Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

I would like to know what I need and how to go about getting, I'm guessing a power of attorney. My friend is serving a life sentence. He has been in prison for 17 years already. If and when the time comes, He wants his body released to me, as do I for proper burial, Any advice would be appreciated.

A CA statutory Advance Health Care Directive gives post death authority re: disposition of remains to the agent. But I don't know if it would be honored by prison authorities.
