Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Hello.

My mother had a close friend that passed away in April 2010. He told her that she was going to inherit a large amount of money (a sum that was divided between his daughter and my mother). Well, it has been almost a year now with no update. The man lived in Detroit, Michigan and my mother lives in Sacramento, California.

Last she heard, the money was in Washington D.C.

How can we inquire about where the money is, and it's status?

Thank you

- Erik

You should direct your question to a Michigan attorney- the procedure depend on the state where the decedent lived. But no matter where, if your mother was a beneficiary under this man's Will, she should have gotten some notice long before now. Has she tried contacting the daughter? Or the probate court in the county of the man's residence to see if a probate estate has been filed? (If he had a living trust, there may not be a probate. That is common in CA, but I don't know about Michigan.)

Call our office. We are in El Dorado Hills and have a relationship with a Michigan probate firm. Together I think we can get to the bottom of it. Jim, 916-235-8700x123.
