my grandma passed away in aug 2000. no one ever did probabte, so her house is sitting there empty & abandoned. Can I still do probate on the property? Also is there a way to take the costs out of the estate?

You can still do a probate. One time I did a probate 20 years after the death. Attorney fees are set by statute and come out of the estate. If the house is worth less than 100k then you do not need to do a probate.

There is no statute of limitations on probate. I just handled one where decedent died 8 years ago as well.

Yes. Yes. The costs must be out of the estate and fees must be approved by the court before they are paid.
