A trustee can do anything they want with the trust property and assets as long as what they do: 1) is not prohibited by the trust documents, 2) does not prevent them from doing something that is required by the trust documents, 3) does not use the trust assets for personal gain, or more personal gain than the trustee is entitled to as a beneficiary if the trustee is also a beneficiary, and 4) does not violate the duty to manage the trust assets as reasonably carefully as his or her own personal finances.
