Re: promise to appear not signed

The original promise to appear may arguably still be valid and require your attendance in court on the following Tuesday. Even if that is not the case, the police are likely intent on having the matter processed in court. Appearing on a promise to appear is normally to your benefit because the alternative may be an arrest warrant. If you don't come in, the police may get a warrant for your arrest. Moreover, if you have any kind of record or if the current charge is serious, there may be some risk of not getting bail.

By the way, an unsigned promise to appear is likely valid, as long as copy is given to the defendant.
