Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Canada

Misdirected property tax payment

My husband paid our property tax bill for this year on the web and unfortunately did not notice that the account number had changed since we moved last year. The money went to the property tax account of the people who bought our house. They paid their taxes out of our money and since our taxes at our new home are higher than at our former home, they received a non-residental tax credit for the difference. Do we have any hope of recovering the money from these people as they are not co-operating.

Thank you.

Re: Misdirected property tax payment

Have you talked to the tax collector directly? That's where I would start. A small-claims suit against the new owners who took advantage of the erroneous payment should be successful as well if you have good proof.
