Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado

A 20 yr old girl was incarcerated for 6 months due to criminal mischief, and now after serving her time is told she owes the state over $1000 for her room and board and if she can't pay it, will be arrested again and have to serve 6 more months...and then owe the state even more for her time. Is this truly the case in Colorado?

Most likely her fees and costs are related to a community corrections sentence -- a half way house. Community corrections is a prison diversion program which is set up to permit the offender to earn their way out of incarceration and to avoid the "real deal" sentence in a prison setting.

She is probably serving what is known as a non- residential sentence that follows thw residential protion of a half way house sentence -- in that setting she is ordered to pay for her former room and board by obtaining employment with the assistance of her casemanager. This is too complicated a situation for me to analyze without knowing more. But that is what I think is happening in her situation in the absence of additional informaton.
