Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Colorado

Injured by police

I was arrested on the 7th of Jan. I was completely cooperative. Despite this, I was cuffed very tightly and now have enduring numbness and pain in my left arm. It is affecting my job and I'm worried it will not get any better.

Do I have any recourse for medical costs or partial loss of use of my arm?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

Re: Injured by police

Is your doctor worried it will not get any better? You don't mention what you were arrested for, whether you were completely cooperative because, for example, you were completely drunk, whether you let the police know you were in pain, etc.

Make sure you are discussing this current pain and numbness in your left arm with your doctor: you may be a walking heart attack as well as a walking lawsuit.

If you can prove the police mistreated you, that the mistreatment caused the problem with your arm, and that "partial loss of use" of your arm involves something more than that you can't lift a beer from table to lips with your customary gusto, you may well have a case (against the police, not of Bud).

Without much more information, it's difficult to tell. And while it doesn't sound like a strong case to me right now, there are a lot of lawyers out there.

Good luck with the arm, and the case.
