Legal Question in Family Law in Colorado

Child Support owed

I am owed child support for my 28yr old daughter, this should have been paid through the Colorado courts (15,000+)

Can I still pursue this? Ex hiding in another state since 1985 (recently located in Texas)

I am also owed support for my (4)children (ages 12-20)during my second marriage, also Colorado courts. The amount owed is over 27,000. My ex-husband is retired and not employed? Refuses to pay.

Thanks for your time.

Re: Child Support owed

Regarding your 28 year old daughter, you could file a motion requesting back child support. However, because the child support obligation ended at age 19, it will be a very difficult case to win. You'll need to be able to show what efforts you used to try to track him down, etc.

As for the kids from your second marriage, you can also petition for back child support, and you're likely to get a ruling in your favor for the younger kids. And, even though your ex is retired, he still has an obligation to pay child support until the kids turn 19.

The other important thing to keep in mind is even if you get a judgment in your favor, actually collecting on it is another issue.

Hope this helps!
