Legal Question in Family Law in Colorado

I have recently been granted a temporary protection order. I think that I do not want to follow through and get a permanent protection order. Will the temporary order simply expire if I do not show up for the court date? Is there a better way to do it than not show up? Are there any ramifications to not showing up?

If you do not show up for the permanent protection order hearing, the temporary protection order will simply expire and no permanent protection order will be entered. It is preferable to give the Court a courtesy call in advance and let them know that you do not intend to follow through and do not intend to show up. However, as the person who obtained the temporary protection order, there are no ramifications for you for not showing up beyond the temporary protection order expiring. If the other party has been served and does not show up, and if you do show up and ask for a permanent protection order, it will be entered. Beyond that, there are no ramifications for the other party for not showing up either.
