Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Colorado

Double Rent

I recently moved out of an apartment, and they required me to pay two months rent plus concessions. I found out that someone moved into the apartment less than a month after I moved out. Am I still liable for the two months rent? Isn't that double dipping?

Your question brings up various issues and requires more information, including review of the lease agreement and any other agreement you had with the landlord.

You said you had to pay two months plus concessions. Was this a term of the lease or did you make a separate agreement with the landlord regarding settling your lease agreement? If the terms were part of the lease, this may be an invalid liquidated damages clause. If a separate agreement, it may be valid depending on the facts and other issues.

I strongly recommend that you contact an attorney to review your matter.
