Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Connecticut

Chapter 7 Question.

The first week on Jan. I gave my Lawyer, $500 to file Chapter 7, bankrupcy, on $80,000 worth of credit cards, all unsecured loans. The plan was I pay him the balence of $450 at the the document signing.

he instructed me in feb. that when any creditors call I should tell them I have filed Chapter 7 and give them his name and number. It is mid July and I have not heard from him since feb. I have not heard from any of my creditors since Feb., either. When I call him, his respnce is not to worry all is under control. My question, since i no longer hear from any creditors at all, but have not sign any final documents, should I worry.

Re: Chapter 7 Question.

You should follow up with your attorney. The fact that you have not filed means that you have not discharged your creditors. That can only be accomplished with the actual filing of the petition. You have the right to ask your attorney to either complete the job that they were hired for, or return your retainer and all documents so that you can hire an attorney who will accomplish the task quickly so you will not have to worry in the future.
