Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Connecticut

Credit status and getting married

I am planning to get married within the next couple of months, my future husband has bad credit and i have a good credit status. How can I preserve my credit status even though we are married? Had heard that if I hyphened my last name? What is the process I need to go through? Thanks.

Preserving good credit

Just don't take any part of his name, at all. Keep your name as it is and keep his name as it is. Do not open any joint bank or credit card accounts. There is no legal requirement that you change anything about your name or your credit when you get married. You have an option of filing joint income tax returns; that is an issue you should address with a tax practitioner.
