Legal Question in Construction Law in Connecticut

No show by contractor

Paid contractor 1/2 down for work to be done. Contractor started by removing 1/3 of pavers to be replaced with StampCrete. I called several days later (Friday) to complain. Contractor called back with excuse an offered to continue the job on that Sunday. No show. Three days have passed - still no contractor. I want to cancel the deal. I only have the contractors proposal. No contract. I want a refund and pavers returned. Is there any hope.

Re: No show by contractor

You may be able to obtain relief from the Home Improvement Guarantee Fund established by the Department of Consumer Protection. The contractor may be in violation of Connecticut's Home Improvement Act. If so, and you obtain a court judgment against him, you may be able to collect from the fund for any damages you sustained.

Go to CT's website on this subject and you can obtain more information.

Re: No show by contractor

It depends whether or not the work contracted for was being done on a residential home or property or a commercial or business property.

If it was a residential property, you have numerous options concerning potential rights and plans of action concerning the Home Improvement Contractors Act.

If it was for a commercial/business property, then a lawsuit against the contractor for breach of contract would be a way to prusue a remedy.
