Legal Question in Criminal Law in Connecticut

Civil Lawsuit against me

I was involved in an incident a couple of weeks ago that ended in me and the other party being arrested. We went to court and settled in mediation with no criminal record for either of us. He attacked me first, which is stated in the police report. However, when I struck him back, he required medical attention. His mother is now filing a civil suit against me for damages ( he got 10 stitches to his mouth). What can they sue for and should I counter-sue? I already know my insurance will not cover any damages done intentionally

Re: Civil Lawsuit against me

There is no question he can sue you for his out of pocket ecopnomic loss, and for pain and suffering, and scarring, if any. Given the facts as you have outlined them, it is certainly not clear that he would win. You could counter sue for the tort of assault however i dont know if you were injured or have any damages that would entitle you to recover.

it is true that your homoewoner's inurer will not cover you for intentuional acts such as this. Therefore, you will need to file an appearance on your own behalf or hire an attorney to represent you.

Good luck

Put simply, he can sue you for the injuries he sustained from contact with you. However, to counter these alleged damages, you may have a good defense. That defense being self-defense. In addition, you have the right to sue him for the damage you also sustained. An attorney would not exactly how to proceed with this matter.
