Legal Question in DUI Law in Connecticut

Does DWI cause Immigration Problems?

Dear LawGury,

Almost 4 weeks ago a friend of mine got a DWI ticket in New Jersey and he decided to go to court (right now it is in process to determine if he is guilty or not). He will mostly likely be guilty. This is his first ofense and he never got even an speeding ticket on his record before, everything was clean. He is Mexican and will renew his USA visa in 4 months. One of the questions on the VISA renewal form is: ''have you been arrested by any police, military ...'' He needs to go to Mexico to renew his visa. So, the questions are:

1) If he is found guilty. Is this going to affect his visa renewal process?

2) What are the changes his visa renewal is rejected/denied?

3) Is DWI (first offense, no accident or injury happened) considered a crime? If so, is he going to be in trouble with the immigration department?

4) Is DWI recorded and shared with all Immigration departments world-wide so the american embassies across the world know the status of this. His current type of visa is E1 and he is going to apply for a E1 renewal.

Your prompt answers will be really appreciated.

Thanks

This is a serious offense that may have adverse consquences on his chances of renewal. The answer will therefore depend on a further recitation of the facts.
