Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

Living with Boyfriend

I have been living my partner/boyfriend for 7 years. The house is in his name and most of the contents I bought. We both have children with our ex's not together. If something were to happen to him is there a law that allows me to stay in the house until I either buy it or find another place to live (if the kids were to throw me out). Thanj you

Re: Living with Boyfriend

No. Connecticut does not recognize "common law" marriages. However, because it is your home, they would technically have to evict you as if you were a tenant. Nevertheless, you should make sure you are protected. The best scenario is that your boyfriend quitclaims one-half his interest in the house to you and he leaves his share of that house to you if he dies in a will.
