Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

How do I transfer a finalized divorce case from TX to CT? Neither parent lives in the state of TX any longer. Minor (17yo) wants to come and live with Mom in CT, father lives in CA. Would appreciate any help with this matter. Thank you.

You will need a certified copy of your decree from TX (and any modifications to it). You must file that with the court here, together with an affidavit stating that the decree and modifications are a complete record of the currently existing orders outstanding. You must have your ex served with a copy of the CT filing; he gets 20 days to object to the filing. Then you must file a motion to modify, asking that the child come live with you. That will be set down for a hearing; he must be served with notice of that hearing. At the hearing, new child support amounts will be set. If he objects, an attorney will be appointed for the minor child (that can get expensive). The reality is that the court is pretty much going to allow a 17 year old to live with whichever parent (s)he wishes, but you may have to jump through some hoops to get there if he objects.
