Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

Wife's name on lease?

My husband & I are about to sign a lease on a new apartment, & there's a chance we may be divorcing down the road. Am I better off not having my name on the lease, e.g., if I move out will I have some of the rent obligation if my name is on lease?

Re: Wife's name on lease?

You're better off with your name not on the lease. That way the landlord can't chase you for the money if you move out. And if you do start a divorce, it's unlikely the divorce court would make you move simply because your name's not on the lease (at least, not before the divorce is final).
