Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Connecticut

Is this legal?

My father was recently involved in a car accident in which his vehicle was ''totalled.'' A few days later, after he was feeling better, he had my mother drive him to the garage his car was towed to, to clean out his belongings. When he got there, however, he was told that he owed them a bill for over $200, for towing, accident clean-up, and storage charges, and could not go near his car until he paid the bill. Can the garage legally hold his belongings ''hostage'' until the bill is paid? If not, what are his options? Thank you.

Re: Is this legal?

Probably legal, but as soon as you retain an attorney things will change and you will get your stuff back. Was your father hospitalized? Was he insured? Was the other driver insured? Who was at fault? All these things will help resolve your fathers claim. Call me as soon as possible, and i can probably help with it.

Best regards.
