Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Connecticut

Bad Checks from a Lawyer

I have a lady friend in Connecticut gets alimony from her ex-husband and her lawyer arreanger for the alimony to be paid directly to the lawyer. In recent weeks this lawyer has been giving my friend checks that cant be cashed due to lack of funds. This has become a burden because my friend now has to take time off from work to go to the lawyers bank during business hours to cash her alimony check from this lawyer ( to make sure the money is in the account . Is there any crime being committed here or ethics violations? If so, what do you recogmend for my friend to do? Thank you for any time you can give to this subject ........

Re: Bad Checks from a Lawyer

This makes no sense to me. There is no reason for the support checks to be going to the attorney, who should be reported to the bar association.

Your friend should consult with an experienced matrimonial attorney in her state to discuss other options.

Hope this helps.
