Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Connecticut

ownership

My family decided to build our own home. We signed a contract with a builder who started to build our home. Somewhere along the line he started using materials of his choice on the house rather than consulting my family on

what material we wanted to be used. For example he bought bath tubs and windows that we didn't choose. My father told him to stop building the home and the builder took us to court. The court awarding him money (almost $60, 000). Anyway at that point we thought that problem was solved. However, this company that supplied the builder with materials to build the house put a lien on our house and went to court to get ownership of the house because they were not paid. When they went to court they filed a court case against my family and the court gave them the house. We didn't even know about the case My question is if that company didn't have a contract with my family but with our builder who failed to pay his subcontractors how can the company come to us to get paid? We paid the builder so if he didn't pay his subcontractors how can they come get money from us or worse take ownership of our house. Please my family needs some answers. My parents have invested all their life savings into this house. Please help.

Re: ownership

Why wasn't the supplier's lien issue brought up in the lawsuit brought by the builder?
