Towns responsibilty to keep accurate records

I have applied for a building permit after having the lot surveyed. I found out tonight that the towns site plans of the neighborhood are inaccurate and showed my lot in the wrong location (they even took a photo of the wrong lot). To further the problem a few years ago the town had the people changd their street numbers, but never updated their own records to show the changes. I was provided with the names of ajoining property owners to notify them of notification of a public hearing for my permit, but they are all wrong. Now the town wants ME to have my surveyor go back and find out who owns the ajoining properties, most of which are vacant lots, because the town is lost. I said to one of the board members, ''isn't it the responsibilty of the town to know this information?'' and he said ''no''. No I have to pay the surveyor to go back and look at other properties and figure out the mess at my expense together with a delay and possible loss of a sale of this property which is contingent on obtaining a permit to buid first. Isn't it the towns responsibilty to keep their records of the location and owners of town properties accurate?

Re: Towns responsibilty to keep accurate records

It's the town's responsibility, but your remedy is at the ballot box. Put people in office who will hire people to do the job properly and fire those who do not.
