If a contract is illegal, can it be amended to become legal?

You did not specify why you believe the contract is illegal. Generally speaking, a contract can be amended and be brought to within the boundaries of the law, unless the subject matter of the contract is illegal (e.g. a contract to sell illegal drugs will always be illegal as a matter of law). Needless to say that you should have an attorney review the contract.
