Legal Question in Business Law in Florida

Libel or slander towards a corporation

I used to host another user's website. When it had gone into a scuffle and i shut down the user's site per the AUP of my service, they harassed myself and the management of my company threatening to sue each of them because they ''signed'' the termination letter. We soon got them off our service, and they began to heavily talk slanderous about the corporation that would damage our image. Everything they hd said was false and we have a full backup on our servers of what they had said. Recently, they continued the harassment about us cutting them off and trying to tell people the corporation fails to exist, which of course could scare clients regardless of if the state said it was active.

I contacted their current webhost asking for them to remove the offensive content otherwise i would seek legal counsel, instead they threatened me saying its free speech. I always thought attempting to damage a company reputation with false information was illegal or did this magically change overnight? What are the exact laws on libel against a corporation or even threatening specific employees for their ''signing'' of a termination letter? Do myself and my associates have any recourse?

Yes, you may have legal recourse. If the statements were made to third parties and they are false, you may have a viable basis for legal action. The question becomes what damages, if any, have you suffered and whether you can prove such damages.
